Arthur Waldeck (1899-1965) was a New York-based voice teacher. The collection consists of Waldeck's letters to and from renowned music theorist Heinrich Schenker (1868-1935), as well as Waldeck's translations into English and heavily annotated copies of Schenker's works, written and published in German.

Abstract

Barrie Karp was a professor of philosophy, psychology, feminist theory, and critical race theory at The New School for twenty-five years (circa 1983-2008). These papers document her teaching career with syllabi, course notes, and student work. Also included in the collection is a small amount of correspondence with colleagues and materials related to courses Karp taught at other universities.

This collection contains holiday cards, illustrations and children’s books sent to Barry Parnell by illustrator Quentin Blake and author John Yeoman over the span of nearly fifty years, testament to their lifelong friendship.

The collection (1960s-1980s) consists of forty-two watercolor and pencil renderings produced by various artists for Bernard Design International.

Summary Bob Adelman (1930-2016) studied photography with Alexey Brodovitch at The New School in the 1950s and became one of the photographers regularly documenting the life of the New School in the 1970s and 1980s. Adelman also taught at the school and was one of the most well-known photographers of the Civil Rights Movement. The collection consists of approximately 500 professional illustrations by Parsons School of Design alumnus Bob Hiemstra, from the beginning of the 1980s into the early 1990s, when he produced fashion and spot illustrations for a wide range of magazines, newspapers, cosmetic companies and department stores.

American fashion designer Bonnie Cashin (1908-2000) had a longstanding partnership with manufacturer Philip Sills and Co., spanning 1953 into the mid-1970s. This collection represents 65 fashion photographs, some with accompanying press releases, from 1967-1968.

Interior decorator Bruce Buttfield (1897-1969) made his mark in the 1930s by creating distinctive furniture and rooms. In 1931, he designed the interior of the original Whitney Museum building on Eighth Street in New York City. The collection includes photographs and color renderings of Buttfield interiors.
